Works in progress
Oh, it can feel as if it will take forever for spring to arrive, and then, suddenly, spring has turned to a hot, muggy summer, and it feels difficult to pick up (let alone work with) anything wooly! So, I’m happy that I finished my Jane Thornley-inspired Free-Range Wrap (based on her Green Before the Gold wrap recipe, which you can find here. Knitting this wrap at the same time I was working to get this blog set-up helped to inspire the whole look of this site. (Thank you, Jane!) In fact on the right of the banner above you can see a wee detail shot of the wrap-in-progress.
Have you ever noticed that getting the creational flow in one area sets off similar flows in other parts of your life? It works that way for me …so when inspiration soared, while knitting the wrap and (finally!) getting this blog together, I found myself wanting to suddenly organize my yarn room, start cooking some favorite recipes I haven’t made for years, plant a bunch of perennials…you get the idea.
Many streams of inspiration can create quite a flow, and it’s easy to over-stretch in such situations. Gratefully, life comes along with its constant reminder to stay grounded in everyday things (a son’s birthday will do that
, as will the need to replenish the larder so there’s something to eat in the house!)
So, for my son’s birthday, I grabbed the opportunity to try out Jane Ellison’s Cowslip Hat Pattern, which I made with Noro Yuzen.
(If you’re a Ravelry member you can find it via my Ravelry link on the lower right of this page — if you’re not a member there yet, why not join!) Yuzen is a wool and silk yarn and I felt this would work well for the California climate where my son lives. I made the hat as a beanie so that it wouldn’t be too warm to wear (but would help keep his hair out of his eyes on those windy walks along the Pacific shore).

And, for good measure, I made him a headband as well (also for hair control), which was based upon The Rio Loco Headband pattern (a free pattern which you can also find via my page on Ravelry.
Meanwhile, I have ALL those many ends to weave in on my wrap …scads of finished knit projects to photograph and write about here. And I’m still getting to know the technical landscape of this blogworld.
So…inspiration flows, yes! Now, how will I manage to stretch time to keep up with it all?!

What a beautiful site, Cara! I felt a little as if I’d stumbled upon a friend living in the same neighbourhood, speaking the same language with the same aesthetic — similar yet different.
You’ve inspired a new “creational flow” in me. Can’t wait now for the New Year when I can devote more time to such activities. Your work is beautiful, as is your writing, and I can see how you and Jane connect. Thanks for the renewal!
